Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound is the application of sound waves. The sound waves are transmitted into the affected tissue at depths of 3 cm or more heating tissues deeper than hot packs, heating pads, etc. Therapeutic ultrasound has two primary benefits, increasing blood flow and reducing swelling and edema. With the increase of blood flow an increase of oxygen and nutrients are delivered to the affected tissue along with removing cell wastes. Therapeutic ultrasound relaxes muscles, breaks down scar tissue, reduces inflammation and accelerates healing. Treatments are performed for conditions such as restricted range of motion, joint contractures, pain, muscle spasms and wound healing.
